The Lady Who Reminded Me Of The Value Of Loving What You Do

June 9th, 2006

One morning, something happened. I met a friend on the way called Natasha walking towards a place she could catch a taxi. I stopped to give her a lift.
She was going to campus to do her paper. It was a public holiday.
“You are going to work?” she asked.
“Yes” I replied. She was quite surprised that I could go to work on a public holiday.
“A public holiday is for people who for example are in civil service and the like who are employed and work so hard yet not enjoy what they are doing. It doesn’t apply to me who is self employed and love what I do at the same time. So I don’t care whether it’s a Sunday or holiday. That’s the value of loving what you do and being self employed” I added.
“Wow” was her response.
I really hope you can also get into a wow experience. When it comes to self care, you’ve got to do something that honors who you truly are. To do something that rejuvenates your spirit. Not just a pay check. No just making a living but truly living. To have a life. That way, work stops being toil but joy. My prayer is that you find such work. God luck!

A Battle Against Running That Finally Got Conquered

June 8th, 2006

When it comes to extreme self care, one of the things to focus on is to make sure that things you have been putting off are finally done. Because if you don’t, then you are losing a lot of emotional energy that would otherwise be put to good use like accomplishing the true goals that are close to your heart.

One of the projects that I have been putting off is doing some daily exercise. For the last 3 days, I have been consistent in jogging for around 30 minutes at the start of every morning.

Right now my legs are paining. Oh, sometimes I experience an occasional pain in the back. But you know what, at the end of the day, it feels really good. My energy is much higher and my mental clarity has never been better. The last 2 days have been one of the most productive for me.

Over to you now. Go ahead and do something for yourself that you have been putting off.

Do You Clear Crap Out Of Your House?

June 7th, 2006

Today I feel like am in the flow after taking a 25 minutes run this morning at 6am. I felt refreshed and energetic. Ready to conquer the world. It’s joy. I would encourage you to do the same if you can.

Back to the subject of the day.

2 days ago at night, I found myself in the store where I had put extra books and several boxes that originally housed my radio, microwave and the like. After picking out what I wanted, I noticed that the place looked crammed and crowded. It felt uncomfortable.

“Why?” I asked myself.

I realized that all 80% of boxes were useless at that moment. I pulled them out and the following morning kicked them out of my house. My store now looks roomier. I felt heaviness getting lifted off my shoulders. Next thing, I will be cleaning it soon. It feels good.

Do you clear crap out of your house? If you don’t, forget just starting. Run and do it. I mean as in NOW.

A Gift To The House Help

June 7th, 2006

One of the core concepts of extreme self care is that in order to improve the quality of your life, you do not necessarily have to add more stuff into you life but rather what you remove from you life.

2 weeks ago, I went into my closet again and chose to remove some clothes that were no longer exciting me. I packed them and drove home. A pair of shorts, around 4 shirts, 3 t-shirts and 2 trousers. I gave them to Sula the house help that offers support in the shamba and other chores. He’s been around for over 6 years. He always helps me out to clean the car when I visit home on Sundays after a sumptuous meal.

He was delighted. 3 days ago, sent him to get me some tooth paste and he chose to put on the pair of shorts I gave him. He looked good and happy too.

2 things I learned and am working on practicing.

1. What you consider to be useless might be gold to another. Pass it on.

2. Life abhors a vacuum. I have created a vacuum for new and exciting clothes. When they come in, I will let you know.

By the way, a few days after giving the clothes a lady pulled me by the side and whispered something in my ear…

Well well, it’s not what you are thinking right now. Got you!

Yes, after pulling me aside we worked out a deal that would open great doors of business for me. As a matter of fact I turned one down she had led me too because what they do clashes with my values. But she is going to lead me into other opportunities.

Coincidence that doors for business opened up after giving away clothes? May be Yes, may be no. What is clear thought is that when we clear what’s no longer serving us, what we want comes into our life.

What are you going to clear today?

Do You Practice Extreme Self Care?

May 18th, 2006

This is a blog that will share a personal journey from a concepts I borrowed from Cheryl Richardson in her tape set “Take Time For Your Life”.

It’s really about personal development. I will be posting blow by blow details of what am exactly doing and what am manifesting in my life.

I remember doing one of the actions she recommended and the results were amazing. But then I shelved the tape set and never followed through. Now am back. I am listening to it in my car when I am driving almost on a daily basis. And I have started implementing what she recommends.

So, do you know what extreme self care is all about? I will be making another post soon as you return.

For now keep taking care of yourself!
